BuddhistRoad on tour in Berlin
The BuddhistRoad team together with Dr. Dylan Esler of the Dzogchen project (CERES) and Prof. Dr. Lewis Doney from Bonn University were on a three-day research trip in Berlin from Sunday, 4th of August 2022 to Wednesday, 7th of August 2022.
First, the researcher's visited the Humboldt Forum to see the exhibition of the Museum of Asian Art. Together with researchers of the “Turfanforschung” of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the group got insight into the exhibition “Northern Silk Road”. Thanks to the explanations of Dr. Lilla Russell-Smith and Diplom-Restaurator Birgit Schmidt they got a closer look at reliefs, sculptures and fragments from Kizil, Kucha and Karashahr.
The group also visited the Berlin State Library and with the help of Antje Ziemer had the opportunity to look at manuscripts from the so-called “Waddell Collection”.
On the last day, the group went to the “Turfanforschung” of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities to see original Buddhist and Manichean manuscripts in ancient Turkish and Iranian and to listen to lectures by Prof. Dr. Abdurishid Yakup and Dr. Ayşe Kılıç Cengiz. As well as Simone-Christiane Raschmann and Dr. Christiane Reck of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
The BuddhistRoad Team would like to thank everybody who gave us the opportunity to view various manuscripts and materials and welcomed us into their institutions.
Report of the trip coming soon.
